The year of the Wood Snake in Chinese astrology ends on February 16, 2026.

Right now, we are in the time referred to as the “tail of the snake.”

I was born in the year of the Water Snake, 1953, so I’ve been 6 times through the astrological calendar as I experience 72 years on planet earth.

For me, the lunar calendar of the Chinese, and of the Anishinaabeg, resonate deeply.

We seem to be living in a time of hyper-masculinity.

The antidote, should we wish to seek balance, may be to exalt the feminine, and that’s what moon cycles are all about!

In Anishinaabemowin, and in the culture of the Anishinaabeg,

the last moon of the lunar calendar occurs in January…

and here’s how people name that moon:

Manidoo-giizis (Spirit Moon)

Nmebin-giizis (Sucker moon)

Shki-bboon-giisoons (Little New-winter Moon).
